OUR STORY
His People is an Every Nation Church in the heart of KZN, South Africa.
We are passionate about Him (Jesus) & People. This statement captures the heart of
His People. Jesus defined The Greatest Commandment as: "Love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your
strength." [Mark 12:30] - passionate about HIM! Jesus also gave us The Great
Commission: "go and make disciples of all nations (peoples)" [Matt 28:20] - a
passion to help people follow Jesus.
His People Church was started in Pietermaritzburg, in 2005, by Pastor Jacques and
Jenny Oberholzer and a team of church planters, sent from His People Church in Cape Town. They came with a vision to plant a strong local church, with one foot in the Community of Pietermaritzburg and one foot on the University Campus (UKZN).
They started Sunday church services in Pastor Jacques and Jenny's home but soon were needing to find a bigger venue. In 2006 a door opened for them to move to Ridge J.P. School Hall, right next to the University Campus of UKZN.
The Lord spoke to them about their own church building and miraculously provided their building in 2017, at 154 Birkett Road, Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg.
Then in 2023, the Lord opened a path for them to launch a new afternoon service at The Midlands Hotel in Hilton.

About Ps Jacques
& Jenny​
They both got involved with His People shortly after it started in 1988, when they were still students at the University of Cape Town. Raised up as leaders in the church, they both felt a strong call of God into full time ministry.Soon after graduating from University they got married and moved to Port Elizabeth, where they helped to start His People Church. They launched and ran the Bible School, while both working full time in their vocations, Jacques as an Engineer and Jenny as a High School Science & Biology teacher.In 2001 they moved back to Cape Town for a season of further ministry training with His People CT before being ordained as pastors, joining the full-time pastoral team. The Lord answered their cry of "Where on earth do you want us, for Heaven's sake?", and called them to plant His People Church in Pietermaritzburg in 2005.​They have 3 daughters, a son and son-in-grace, and are so grateful that the Lord has called them to such a beautiful place.
